One of my favorite things I've had a chance to gain experience through school is photography. Learning the ins and outs of a professional camera and (especially) all the tricks that can be done with editing has been a valuable set of skills to add to my repertoire. All the images on this page come from ones that I've personally taken and edited for my Digital Photography class. This first collage in particular was for a project where we had total sets of photos and arrange them into what is known as a triptych - a set of three photos. I included the unedited photos here to showcase the way that digital editing was used to bring out the highlights, color, and exposure of the images.
This photo is probably one of my favorites I've ever taken. While gathering pictures for an assignment where the owl was to get in really close to a subject, I happened to look down in a patch of grass and see this lovely little red flower peeking out. Very little editing was done to this image, only just to bring out the highlights of the red and allow it to stand out a bit more.
Taken for the same assignment as the previous picture, this image of a duck statue on its own doesn't exactly feel like it has anything special, yet there was something about all the texture and color you could see here that drew me to choosing it for the assignment. The original image was quite under-exposed as the lighting in the yard where this photo was taken was not great, but by utilizing the editing software I was able to really bring out just how vibrant and clear the image could be.
I didn't use this photo for any assignment in particular, but I happened to take it while taking photos for an abstract assignment and I really like it. There's something special about coming up really close on a subject and being able to capture a very clear photo of a single object. Once again, not much editing was necessary to make this photo stand out the way that it naturally does.
This image came from an assignment where the objective was to display both light and shadow in a single photograph. I loved the way the steps of the stairs hung over the side slightly to make those small shadows on the side, with the structure in its entirety making the dark shadows underneath. This was taken on a very bright day so the light was working very effectively to make great shadows.
